My Ibotta Review: Is it Worth My Time?
The Ibotta app is among the Top 10 shopping apps in the app store and judging by all of the Ibotta reviews, it’s popular for many good reasons. This Ibotta Review will cover everything you need to know about Ibotta before downloading the app.
Cashback- who wouldn’t love it? It’s free money you get for doing shopping that you were already going to do. You’re practically getting paid to carry out your chores! Yeah, can I get this in size “laundry”?
For me, cashback was one of those things that I had always heard about, but for a while, I hadn’t looked into it. That is, of course, until I became more independent financially and started my own family. That’s when I began looking for ways to keep more money in my pocket.
That is how I came across all of the Ibotta reviews on the web. And at first glance, it seems that I was missing out on A LOT! Extreme couponers and regular shoppers swore by it, so I had to give it a try.
But is Ibotta legitimate? What’s the catch to Ibotta? Was it worth it? Read on to get the scoop on Ibotta.
If you’d like to skip the suspense, then YES! The Ibotta app is totally worth it! Download the app here.
What is Cash Back?
Cashback, also known as “rebates”, is a type of reward feature that gives you back cash when making certain purchases. The amount rewarded may be a percentage of the total purchase amount, or it can be a set amount given by the rebate program you are a part of. You might be familiar with this feature if you’ve ever owned a “cash back credit card”. Anytime you make a purchase with the credit card, the company “rewards” you with a percentage of what you spent in cash.
With cashback apps like Ibotta, however, you don’t need a credit card to be rewarded. All you need is your smartphone and to make your regular day to day purchases. Then you’ll submit your receipt to see if the items you’ve bought have earned you cash. More on how this works later.
Rebates programs such as Ibotta has been a way for consumers like me and you to keep a little money in our pockets. It’s also been a sly way to keep consumers spending at particular retailers. Because…well, if your store is giving you money back when you shop there, why shop anywhere else?
What is the Ibotta App?
Ibotta is a cashback app that helps its users save money by rewarding cash for making purchases on select grocery items. By using Ibotta, you can save money on practically any kind of item, such as name brand food, toilet paper, and even liquor. You can even get rewarded if you buy the generic brand of an item like milk or eggs.
Their company headquarters is based out of Denver, Colorado and has been in business since 2012. According to their website, they have over 35,000,000 members and have paid out over a whopping $600,000,000 to their users since their debut in 2012! Wow!
They are also partnered with over 1,500 retailers and brands nationwide, which means whichever retailer you regularly shop at, you will more than likely get cashback from there using the Ibotta app.
Some of the most popular retailers are included in their partnerships, including:
- Family Dollar
- County Market
- Sam’s Club
- Dollar General
- Dollar Tree
- King Soopers
These stores are just to name a few. You can tell from the list above that they partner with both store chains, restaurants, local stores, and wholesale stores.
Using Ibotta isn’t exactly like using coupons, but it does help with saving money since you’ll be getting cash back on select purchases.
How Does Ibotta Work?
Ibotta is a super simple app to work with, even though there are many ways to make money with the app. Getting started is quick and easy and can be done in just a couple of minutes.
- Download the app from the app store. (For Android and iOS)
- Tap “Sign Up” and do so with either your email address or your Facebook.
- Enter your basic information and don’t forget to use referral code: nnvfefs or just click here for an exclusive $10 Bonus!
Once you are done signing up, allow Ibotta to use your location as this will help them show you the best offers from the stores in your area.
Ibotta Tip: Creating an account with a valid link like this one can earn you an instant and exclusive $10 Welcome Bonus when you redeem your first offer purchase. This is super easy as they have cash backs deals on every kind of grocery item.
Getting Your Cash Back
There are 3 ways to get cash back with Ibotta. Heres how:
- Open your app, choose the store you are going to shop at and pick offers with items that you will purchase in the store.
- Go shopping. Do your regular grocery shopping and don’t forget the items you picked to receive cashback on!
- Check out and save your receipt.
- To redeem your offers, upload a picture of your receipt, or conveniently scan the QR Code at the bottom of the receipt (if it has one.)
- Wait for the Ibotta review team to verify your receipt. (This only takes a couple of hours or less)
- Check your dashboard for your earnings!
2.Earn Cash Back by Linking Your Loyalty Card
To earn cashback by linking your loyalty card to your Ibotta account might be the easiest way. Of course, to redeem offers with this method, you’ll need a store loyalty card. If you do have one follow these steps:
- Link your store loyalty account to your Ibotta with either your rewards card, store account or your phone number.
- On the Ibotta app, browse the store offers and select which ones you’ll complete on your next shopping trip.
- Go do your shopping. But don’t forget to out in your loyalty rewards card
- When you reach check out, use your loyalty rewards card, phone number, or store account number.
- Ibotta “takes care of the rest”. Just wait for them to review and redeem your offers. Your earnings will be added to your account.
Ibotta Tips #1: Linking your loyalty card to the Ibotta app can be very convenient if you participate in more than one loyalty program that has its own app. Instead of keeping 3-4 different apps on your phone, Ibotta will let you manage all of your loyalty programs within one space. This will also help you save money and time when collecting points from your loyalty account.
3.Earn Money For Online Shopping
You can save money on your online shopping when you make in-app purchases. Here’s how:
- Launch the Ibotta app, go to “Find Offers”, then select “Online Shopping”.
- Choose a store from their list of participating retailers.
- You’ll then be redirected to the retailer’s online store, from which you’ll do your in-app shopping and earn cash.
The Ibotta team will afterward review your purchases and verify them. The amount you earn from shopping online depends on the item you purchase. For example, you’ll earn more when you buy an item in the Electronics department, as much as 10% cashback.
4. Ibotta Bonuses
Within their app, there are a couple of ways to earn some bonuses.
For instance, you will receive a signup bonus (a.k.a. Welcome Bonus) that gives you an instant $10 when you download the app here. Or just use my referral code.
Once you redeem your first offer, you’ll be accredited with the $10 bonus.
You can also earn a bonus when you invite friends and family to download the app with your very own referral code. Once they do, you’ll earn a $5 referral bonus.
Whenever you connect with your friends and family to create an Ibotta Team, you will all earn more together when redeeming offers. With that said, join my team and connect with me on Facebook. You can connect with me personally if you have any questions about Ibotta.
If you’ve dealt with similar apps before, or if you’ve even tried couponing, its no big secret that more often than not, the offer or deal is hardly worth your time. It’s usually the reason why I would try to get into saving money with apps and coupons seriously, just to quit soon after.
But with the Ibotta app, the offers they have are definitely worth it! For instance, I often buy coffee, (I just gotta have it!). Which means I also buy coffee creamer. Believe it or not, I can save money on both items by using Ibotta because most of the time, these two items happen to be in my “gallery”, ready for use.
Maybe you’re not a coffee person! (Meh!) Are you a chocolate bar lover? Or do you regularly buy diapers? Maybe you are an energy drink addict? If you are any of these then you can also save money when you make those purchases because they are all offers I’ve seen in my very own gallery.
The best part is, for a lot of regular staple items (eggs, milk, diapers, chocolate bar, etc) you don’t need to buy a particular brand to be credited for an offer. These are called “Any Brand” offers, which means as long as you buy the item, it doesn’t matter which brand it is. You will still earn money when you upload your receipt.
If you want to save double, you can use a strategy called “offer stacking”, where you’ll be fulfilling two different offers with one purchase. For example, an “Any brand” offer for cheese can be “stacked” with the offer for Kraft’s Shredded Cheese.
A really cool thing about the Ibotta offers is that there are cashback deals for everyone. For example, I’m not a “buy everything organic” type of girl. But if you happen to only buy organic groceries, there are a ton of offers for you.
That’s why whenever I explain Ibotta I like to stress that to make money with the app, you don’t have to go out of your way to buy something you don’t need or you would have never bought otherwise, (I’m looking at you, extreme couponers!) Simply do your regular grocery shopping at your favorite stores and get rewarded for it!
How Much Can You Earn With Ibotta?
The answer to that question depends mainly on your shopping habits. For me, I’m able to bring home about $1.50- $2.00 worth of cashback per shopping trip. I average around $2.50 a week. Plus, I get about 2-4 referrals each month, which adds up to about $20 at the most.
Altogether, I average around $28-$35/month using the Ibotta app.
Listed below are the items I often buy and the amount I’ll be rewarded for redeeming the offer:
- chocolate bar
- energy drink (occasionally)
- diapers (I have two little ones)
- coffee creamer $1 or .50 (depending on the brand)
- Spaghetti sauce- .50
These items are in my gallery at the moment. And it just so happens that I’m due for another shopping trip. Out of the 10 offers I mentioned, I’ll need to pick up about 6. (More than likely 7; the chocolates at the checkout always gets me!)
Also, most of these offers are “any brand” offers, which means as long as I get it, regardless of the brand, I’ll be rewarded. That’s pretty freaking awesome in my opinion!
When you work together as a team, you’ll make more when redeeming offers, and your bonuses are higher paying. That’s why its good to be a part of an Ibotta team. That’s more money in everyone’s pockets.
An app that gives you money for completing your own chores like shopping for groceries might sound a little “iffy” at first. This is probably why there has been talk about Ibotta not being safe to use. Hardly anything in the world exists without a single complaint. But in this Ibotta Review, I’ll go ahead and answer some frequently asked questions to clear the air.
Is Ibotta legitimate?
Yes, it is! Ibotta has earned itself a B rating from the BBB (Better Business Bureau), which isn’t the highest grade a business can earn. But it’s definitely not the lowest.
Every user has a different opinion about the app. However, if it’s a bad review, this does not affect the credibility or legitimacy of Ibotta. It simply means their user experience wasn’t up to par.
Does Ibotta really give you money?
Yes, it does. You see, participating retailers partner with Ibotta to get consumers like us to shop at their store. When retailers see that Ibotta has done their part in bringing more customers to them, they pay Ibotta. What Ibotta has earned from the retailers, they share with their app users as a “thank you”.
Using the Ibotta app never requires you to give them any money, (another reason why I love Ibotta). The app is totally free to use at no cost to you. Except for your grocery shopping, of course.
What is the catch to Ibotta?
I know, it all sounds too good to be true. The thing is, there is no catch. There is no monthly fee or app purchases to be made. You don’t earn in “points” and just about every offer you can save money on is for an item you already use! (Who doesn’t use toilet paper?)
How do you get your money from Ibotta?
Ibotta conveniently pays to your PayPal account once you hit your $20 minimum. To find out how to withdraw to your PayPal account, visit Ibotta’s help page. This means, of course, you’d have to create a PayPal if you don’t have one already.
Ibotta also gives you the option to redeem your earnings in gift cards, which is a more favorable option for most. Their gift card selection is huge and includes some of our favorites including Walmart, Target, eBay, Amazon and more. Read on how to redeem your earnings in a gift card.
How do you reach the Ibotta customer service?
If you run into a problem or have questions, you can visit their webpage for help. If you can’t find what you were looking for or if it wasn’t very helpful, you can contact Ibotta through their Submit a Request page.
They don’t have a contact number as of right now. Boo! But when you do contact them, it’d be best if you have your receipt in question and your email address to your Ibotta account. This will help you save time when getting stuff straightened out.
*Note: I tried to find an Ibotta customer service number, but I couldn’t find one that Ibotta issued directly. So if you find a customer service number on the web, its most likely not the real thing.
My Ibotta Review: The Verdict?
I wanted to write this Ibotta review because it’s really easy to write informative content on an app or product that I genuinely love. However, I know that my opinion or review might differ from another’s. So I’d like to make it clear that, yes! I LOVE Ibotta. But it’s not a guarantee that everyone else will feel the same.
The Ibotta app already gets enough hype on its own. As I said, it’s one of the Top 10 shopping apps of 2019 and 2020. For me personally, it’s one of my favorite apps on my phone. It’s also one of the very few apps that I’ve downloaded and actually kept on my phone. (Even if I’m low on space, lol).
And if you went to see for yourself, you’d quickly find that any other Ibotta review on the web is praising the app.
From my own experience, Ibotta has so much to offer a shopper including a huge variety of stores to shop and save from. Not to mention, if you decide to link your loyalty card to your account, you’ll also be saving time collecting points from your program.
The fact that they pay to PayPal was already a winner for me. I personally don’t like checks, and just about all of my finances are managed online.
My Verdict: you should definitely download the app BEFORE your next shopping trip. It definitely wouldn’t hurt to try, You’d be surprised to see how much you can earn (or save) during your first shopping trip.
You’ve also got nothing to lose when trying Ibotta! It’s totally free to use and it’s completely safe.
How Do I Save Money With Ibotta?
Its always good to have a strategy, especially when it comes to saving money. Over the past several months, I’ve been working really hard to save money, especially at the grocery store. With the way that Ibotta work, I’m able to put together a way to save and make money while not losing any time in my day. And here’s what I came up with.
I make money from home, through this blog. And even though I work from home, I still take surveys whenever I have some time on my hands. Believe it or not, I’ve gotten kind of addicted to them. Besides, the extra few hundred I make comes in handy when I want to buffer my grocery budget.
I don’t work with just any survey company though. Just the ones I find are the highest paying and don’t give me any trouble when cashing out. Here are my Top 3 Recommendations:
- Fusion Cash- Simple, fun, and the money rack up fast. I always end up with AT LEAST $50 a month when cashing out from Fusion Cash. The most I’ve ever made in a month was $159.80. They were mostly from the bonuses I earned. And They let me cash out through PayPal.
- Swagbucks- Also fun and easy to cash out of. The surveys in Swagbucks pay just about the same as Fusion Cash in my opinion. But Swagbucks has a lot more ways to make money on their site including games, offers, watching videos, and a lot more. Cashing out of Swagbucks was the first time I ever cashed out of a Survey site, so its kind of hard to let any other survey platform take its place.
- Pinecone Research- This is a great option if you would like $3 per survey. (Who doesn’t?) Word is that they used to be very exclusive when it comes to getting accepted int their panel. But as of lately, they were more open to different demographics. I was able to get into the panel and I’m no one special, lol. So it might not be much to getting approved.
You should know that both Fusion Cash and Swagbucks give you a $5 sign up bonus when you join, And Pinecone Research has a really great product testing program that users apparently really like. If accepted, you’ll be able to test real products that get sent to you through the mail. After giving your honest opinions on it, you get to keep it and you’ll get paid for reviewing it.
Working Together as a Team
A really cool thing about Ibotta is that you can work in teams. I have my very own team that anyone can join and a Facebook group dedicated to the members and progress of our team.
When you join a team, everyone works together to achieve a Team bonus, which you wouldn’t get if you were working alone. For example, if the Ibotta group goal if to “Earn $20 in cash back in the month of January”, our group would have to collectively get $20 in cash back to receive a $20 bonus.
All we would have to do is make sure we all use Ibotta when we get back from the grocery store. From experience, it only takes about 2 or 3 other people to achieve team goals.
If you’d like to be a part of a team that is always winning, then join Team TotallySpent! We are a group of like-minded individuals (when it comes to getting cash back!) that work together to make the most out of our Ibotta app.
You can even join our Facebook group- TotallySpent-The Winning Circle, where we communicate and share our Ibotta wins!
Shop at Cheap Stores Only!
I absolutely hate it when I go shopping for myself, only to find the same items cheaper somewhere else. That’s why I only grocery shop at 2 stores: Walmart and Aldi’s.
Everyone already knows how cheap Aldi’s is. (It’s almost ridiculous!) And as far as having everything you need in one convenient place for an affordable price, Walmart is the one.
Whenever it’s time to grocery shop, I visit Aldi’s first, grab whatever I can from there, and then hit Walmart for things like Meats and Dairy products. This is simply because Walmart has fresher and a wider selection of meats.
I found that after implementing this strategy, I was able to save over $100 a month on food!
These 3 methods help me make and save as much as possible when I use Ibotta. It’s also a great way to connect with other people.
